Snack Attack

I love snacks. I am notorious for ordering appetizers as my meal at restaurants or eating nothing but snack food for a day. Snack foods give you the opportunity to try a little bit of everything and don't restrict you to one flavor profile for a whole meal. Luckily, our office is surrounded by snack options! For this month's #RediscoverWestAllisDowntown blog, I have decided to rediscover some of my favorite snack foods in West Allis Downtown and let you in on my favorite snack spots.

EMILY'S FAVORITE WEST ALLIS DOWNTOWN SNACKS

1. Queso Fundito with Chorizo at Mis Suenos-7335 W Greenfield Avenue, $8.95/ $10.95

If I could live off of nothing but cheese for the rest of my life, I would order this popular appetizer every day. In fact, I have ordered this as a meal rather than an appetizer on multiple occasions. Queso Fundito is the ultimate comfort food, combining gooey melted Mexican cheese, spicy chorizo sausage and roasted green peppers all mixed together and served with fresh tortilla chips. It's great for sharing with friends, but trust me, you won't want to!

2. Crab Rangoon at Panda Hut- 7136 W Greenfield Avenue, $5.75

Crab Rangoon is my kryptonite, especially if it's from Panda Hut. For less than $6, you can get ten hot, fresh, crab rangoons in about 10 minutes. The wontons are golden brown and crispy and the crab and cream cheese mixture inside is soft and melty (a great combo in my opinion). Bonus Tip: If you need to bring a snack to a party, order Panda Hut's Crab Rangoon Party Tray! For $27, you can get 50 crab rangoons in about 25 minutes and you will be the hit of the party!

3. Delicious Brand Potato Chips at B&K Bar Supplies-7100 W Greenfield Avenue, $1.65

Okay, I know what you're thinking. They're just potato chips, what's so great about them? As someone who loves salt, these chips are a necessity. They're crunchy, salty, and come in a variety of flavors like bacon cheddar, salt and vinegar, and sour cream and onion.

4. Chocolate Whipped Cream Bar from Freeses Candy Shoppe -7312 W Greenfield Ave., $2.50

Freese's Candy is a West Allis Downtown staple offering a wide range of homemade chocolates and roasted nuts to visitors for over 90 years! Personally, I don't like my candy to be anything to crazy with a bunch of flavorings in it, so for me, my Freese's go to is their chocolate whipped cream bar. It's so simple, but gives you that old time candy shoppe nostalgia, just whipped marshmallow cream covered in milk or dark chocolate. It's the perfect treat to cure your sweet tooth cravings.

5. Smoked Bacon Balls at Double B's BBQ-7420 W Greenfield Avenue, $8

I'm going to be honest, when I first saw the sign for the smoked bacon balls outside Double B's BBQ, I was hesitant to order them. Generally, foods that are nothing but deep fried meat don't sit well with me, but I took the chance, and I'm so glad I did! The smoked bacon balls are not heavy and they have so much flavor, you forget you're eating nothing but meat. The bacon is crispy and the meatball is tender, a perfect start to a meal or just a snack!

6. Iced White Chocolate Mocha from Urban Joe Cafe- 7028 W Greenfield Avenue, $4.85

Those who know me know I usually get my caffeine fix from Diet Coke; however, there are days when that's not enough. Fortunately, Urban Joe Cafe is only a few blocks away from our office and my apartment, so getting a good cup of coffee is as easy as taking a walk! Now, I can't drink just a straight black cup of coffee, but I also don't like my drinks to be too sweet. Iced White Chocolate mochas are the perfect summertime treat! They taste like chocolate, have the kick of coffee, and help keep you cool in the hot summer months.

Whether you want to enjoy an iced coffee on the pedlet with a co-worker or indulge in some melted cheese dip with your friends, West Allis Downtown is a great place for your next snack attack.
